Dear La Merced Parents and Guardians,

We would like to begin by thanking you for all of your support. Parents and guardians are the backbone of a school community and serve a vital role in the success of the school. Without your support, our teachers and staff would not be able to provide the level of academic excellence that makes all of us so proud to be a part of La Merced.

At this time we need to ask for your help.  As you may know, each year our school receives a grade from the New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) and our grade has dropped from a B to a C. Part of the grade is based on our attendance which includes absences as well as tardies. Keep in mind that all tardies and absences count against us. For example, according to NM PED there is no difference between a 2 minute tardy and a 15 minute tardy. Likewise, there is no difference between an excused absence and an unexcused absence. Finally, early dismissals also count against our school grade.

We realize that there are times when absences and tardies cannot be avoided. However, if we could all make an effort to reduce both tardies and absences, it would make a positive impact on our school’s overall grade.  And thus, improve NMPED’s view of La Merced.

Sincerely,
Denise Gutierrez, Principal
Kim Berlat, Assistant Principal

General Mills Box Tops for Education
Student Council collects General Mills Box Tops as a fundraiser for La Merced. The school receives 10 cents for each Box Top! Students tape their Box Tops to a blank sheet they are given each month. In April, the pop tabs will be weighed and the class with the most pop tabs (by weight) wins a pizza party. For more information about this charity, please visit this RMHC webpage: http://www.rmhc.org/other-ways-to-help.
